About

I'm Jes Baker. I'm an author, international speaker and blogger with a background in mental health where I've worked as a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist, Arizona state credentialed Peer Support Specialist and Educator. I'm also a cat lover, ALL CAPS user, unabashed fat chick and an enormous proponent of harnessing the magnificent power of shame resilience!

Here on The Militant Baker, I preach the importance of body autonomy, self-love, mental health, strong coffee, and even stronger language.

My passion lies in working towards turning our cultural concept of worthiness on its oppressive head as I know for a fact that every person is deserving of respect and feeling valued no matter their size, shape, race, sex, ability, gender, age or health records.

I do my best to ensure that The Militant Baker is a place in the blogosphere that offers a fresh and colorful perspective on what is presented as normal in our trauma based and body loathing society.

My ultimate hope is that through unlearning societal lies that surround the topics mentioned above, we will all be able to reconnect with ourselves, make peace with our bodies (as well as other people’s bodies), work towards personal liberation and ultimately access our own best life - something that is individually defined and serves you.

When liberation is achieved en masse, I believe that we will see a meaningful shift in our world that will create healing spaces that are accessible to all.

Welcome, welcome, WELCOME!

The Militant Baker garners has been covered hundreds of times by the biggest media platforms including BBC, CNN, Today Show, ABC, Huffington Post, Yahoo, People, Cosmo, Self Magazine, Time, Upworthy, Buzzfeed, New York Magazine, Bust, Bitch and other outlets that both simultaneously surprised Jes and made her really happy.

The Militant Baker covers a mixture of subjects ranging from the delightful to the very very uncomfortable. These topics include but are not limited to: notes on the hazardous journey of body liberation, coping tools to use while in crisis, how to take boudoir photos, rape culture, reasons why you should get a kitten, plus size fashion, equality, why you don't have to be everyone's best friend and general empowerment.
