TRY THIS THING: BODY PRINTING

Liora is literally my favorite photographer in the world. Somehow, she always seems to come up with incredible photo shoot ideas that make me... well... super uncomfortable. Which means I agree to them immediately. Whenever I balk at a scary idea, I take it as a sign that I should probably do it. This was certainly no exception.

I've been asked to be a regular contributor to an online magazine that I love with all my heart: Volup2 (!!!), and I wanted to take some new author bio pictures to send off. Liora suggested that I get naked, cover myself in paint and roll around on the floor to which I said "Mmmm... Okay!". And roll I did. It was ridiculously fun, guys. Ridiculously. Fun.

I'm lucky to have an internationally recognized photographer as a best friend... this definitely makes it easier to strip and feel uninhibited. And really, if Liora didn't have to travel out of town afterwards, she would have jumped in with me. I plan on having a Body Print Party sometime. Ladies only of course.

And while I owe most of the ease to Liora's love and presence, I have to give myself credit. I have come so far in my self and body acceptance... I'm gonna pat myself on the back. It made the entire experience thrilling and liberating.

If you want to try it, all you will need is a roll of butcher paper, tape, and a giant bottle of tempera paint. Tape as much paper as you'd like to the floor so it stays put, cover yourself liberally in paint color of your choice, and roll/press/walk/sit/whatever strikes your fancy! The tempera will wash out of most anything, but might leave a few splotches on your skin for a day or so. I still have blue underarms.

Totally worth it.

Kitties will try it once too. Though, never twice:) And, because lately, my body shame has been little to none, I will share my favorite image from our shoot in which I am happy to be clothed in nothing but paint. Can I repeat myself one last time? It's a thrillingly liberating experience.

Are you going to try it? It makes great wrapping paper!!!

  12. This looks amazing. All of it. And your quote up top: "Whenever I balk at a scary idea, I take it as a sign that I should probably do it." Yes yes yes yes yes! And then you do it and then it's like a big fuck you to fear, which feels MIGHTY SHINY. That last photo is the best. You are so awesome. Thank you for this. For all of this.
