BAKER BABES X: KATHA

I want to welcome our 10th (and first international) Baker Babe: Katha! Oh hey Germany, thanks for sharing the most adorable citizen you have with us! And again, I'm honored that such a charming and wonderful lady took the time to finish an interview and share her favorite recipe with us. She blogs at Kathastrophal and writes about vintage, self love, desserts, fashion, and happiness! Obviously a girl after my own heart. She just wrote the cutest post on 10 things to do this summer and the following is (of course) my favorite:

Have fun reading her sweet interview and then stop by her blog. Cutest gal ever.

Name: Katha
Occupation: student of Computer Science
Dream occupation: Founder of the Next Big Web Thing
Age: 25

What was your earliest memory about baking?
I actually have a really bad memory, but I can remember pretty clearly that little Katha used to „help“ her grandma in the kitchen quite a lot... and also eat a lot of cake batter. That's still one of my favourite parts!

Howd’ja get started baking? I used to help my mother and my grandmother when they baked, but I only started to bake on my own when I moved out. I started with muffins – and I still love them.

When you picture “a baker” what do you see? I see someone who makes things in order to make other people happy... someone with flour and eggshells all over her kitchen... someone who has that lovely, proud glow that you only get when you're really proud of yourself and your work... and someone with a huge smile!

What qualities or skills does it take to be a baker?
I think the most important one is to love baking. Then you will have enough patience and passion to never give up. I don't think it's neccessary to try to become the best baker ever... just try to make something that you love.

What was the biggest baking FAIL you ever had? When I left an old job, I made a strawberry cake for my coworkers. The strawberries lost so much water over night that the cake was basically liquid the next day. I didn't have time to bake something else, and I was soo emberassed. They probably won't miss me that much there...

How do you feel about Martha Stewart? I live in Germany and there's not too much talk about her around here. I often see some amazing things from her website on Pinterest, and these are lovely ideas.

Tell me something random that most people don't know:
Most people are shocked to learn that I hate chewing gum with a passion. Just thinking about the smell makes me sick!

If you had to be an ingredient in a recipe, what would you be?
This is probably going to sound really cheesy, but: sugar! I like sweet things, and I like to make everyday life a little sweeter.

Will you share your all time favorite recipe with us?
That's such a hard question! My favourites change all the time, but I'm still soooo in love with these amazing homemade Oreo cookies. I found the recipe on Smitten Kitchen and blogged about it before. I like them better than the real thing, they're divine!

Thanks for being you Katha... the world is a better place because of it.
