THE "MILITANT TOUR" PS I LOVE YOU ALL

Over the last 24 hours, the Internet has shown up at my doorstep with about six barrels of sunshine and only a few bombs. My inbox is overflowing with messages of encouragement and thanks, and this is my attempt to say thank you - to each and every one of you who has reached out.

You have brightened my day, nay, my life with your immeasurable support and I owe you all the squishiest of hugs and sloppiest of kisses.

To all of you who have sent me "hell yeahs" and "get it, grrrl"- have no fear. I'm gettin' this shit. And I'm gettin' it good.

To all of those who have asked how you can help- Let me locate my sanity first and I'll get back to you on that.

To those who have shared intimate details from your personal journey to illustrate how similar stories can be- thank you for that honor. We're all fighting the good fight, and if there is one thing I've learned its that the bad is all too soon forgotten and the good always keeps going.

To all of you who have thanked me for doing whatever it is that I do- I thank you. You are the reason that I continue to challenge social norms even when the going gets uncomfortable as hell. You are the inspiration behind learning to love myself just the way I am. And YOU are the reason I aint quittin'. So don't leave now, y'hear? We've got a world to change!

Here's the thing people: I'm still your regular ol' Militant Baker. I love writing on my blog and I'll be back in full force in the very near future. There was no way I could have prepared for the thrilling response to my last article so you'll have to forgive me while I run off and do incredible things like television shows, newspaper articles, and radio interviews. Give me a little bit of time to respond, and I promise that you'll hear from me.

Now quit fucking reading this droll post and go do something phenomenal with yourself!

Today the interwebs... tomorrow the WORLD!
Well, actually, tomorrow I'll be on the TODAY show. So make sure you catch that shit.

All of the kisses and hugs you could ever want,
Me

Self acceptance is important, I am fed up with all those commercials that said to us what to think, what to wear, what weight is ok.

  40. Thank you for your inspiring attitude and fresh take on media portrayal and the strongly worded letter to the A&F CEO.

My boyfriend and I are just like you and the male model in that photo. He's Mr. Fitness Man and I'm his short little dumpling :] I know some of his friends don't understand why we're together because "he could do soo much better." Goes right to the "like with like" and "fat women are unworthy of love" topics that you've written about.

Only a few know about this but he's actually a chubby chaser. Took him a while to accept that but after being with me, we formed a mutually beneficial relationship regarding self esteem - mine about my size 12 (or 14, depending on the bust) body and him about accepting that he isn't into the "normal" standards of beauty.

He was the starting center on the basketball team that's a genius with technology and I was the musical artsy fat chick learning Japanese, to put things in perspective.

We're going into our 3rd year of college now. And you know what? We're still very happy together :]

  41. I just watched your video on OMG! Insider. Amazing. I almost cried. You ma'am, are inspiring. I have been struggling with my weight to the point of starving myself because I hate my body. But, now, seeing you - it literally makes me want to embrace every damn curve and roll I have. I know I am beautiful and my weight shouldn't define me. As a mother of a teenager, who is considered overweight and gets picked on, we need more people like you in this world. BLESS YOU!!!

  45. You truly are amazing and doing good. Where is it written that love has anything to do with size? I KNEW there was a reason I was repulsed by A&F, I just didn't know why. Now I do. Gloria Vanderbilt once said that she didn't make jeans for larger women... My, how times can change and you are today's agent of change. VERY WELL DONE!

  54. I started reading your site right before it blew it, and, man, it has been so empowering for me. I have felt like utter shit about my body for years. I am trying so hard to feel good about myself, but everything that I've heard over the last almost 30 years tells me that I'm horrible, ugly, and worthless. You have really helped me believe that maybe all that shit isn't true. I've never paid for advertising on a site before, but I totally support what you're doing, and I'm honored and thrilled to have my banner on your site. You are amazing.

  59. Hey Jes -
You TOTALLY ROCKED that Today show interview! So glad that you emphasized that this isn't a problem with a company, it's an entire social assumption that needs to be addressed. Nice job!

  60. I completely understand your mission's spirit, and I agree with you. BUT I think it should be said that Mike Jeffries' interview is from 2006. That means 7 years ago. That's a lot of time, and people can change. Right now, if I'm not wrong, A&F is working with Benjamin O'Keefe, and 18 years old guy who has promoted a petition to ask them to pstart producing bigger sizes. I think you can't go on with what you're doing without pointing that eveything started with a 7 years old interview. Ciao.

  64. I know that your a real inspiration to all women but is it okay if I keep reading your blog to look at pictures of hot women?

  65. Ran across your blog from the article about A&F and glad I did! Thank you for fighting social norms that are damaging to women who have nothing wrong with them, it helps them and those who love them the way they are. Linking articles to my girlfriend whom I'm moving out of state to be with and trying to encourage her to accept who she is because in my eyes she's gorgeous! Thanks again and keep up the good fight! :-D
