THE VIEW FROM HERE

I was traipsing around the internet the other day
and came upon a completely random comment
from a stranger on a cake I made. It went like this:

*gasp!*
No way! That's fascinating, tell me MORE!

Obviously this silly comment stands on it's own, but I find it to be a profoundly simple example of what we deal with on a daily basis: ignorant people that feel the need to say something about everything. This is usually directed at others who threaten their insecurities, and uneducated negativity is the destructive result... if we let it be. Have you seen this video about that? I of course didn't take any offense to this preposterous assertion, but have recently shielded myself from equally ridiculous personal attacks. If you have had the same experience (and c'mon, everyone does) I would recommend laughing it off, patting yourself on the back, and continuing the doing awesome things you do. Your opinion of yourself weighs a million times more than anyone elses, mine included.

I've been reading a lot of history books and deconstructing society in my head as of late. My heart and brain are beyond full and I can't wait to share what I'm learning. I'm developing a new concept about life, feeling internally solidified, and am establishing a trusting relationship with myself. It's invigorating.

Oh, and marzipan is natural, for those who are wondering but don't feel like leaving a rude comment.

To wrap this up, I leave you with my ending recommendation (go ahead and read into this):
if you don't like cake, don't eat it.

  1. I don't know what stupidity is, but it's not natural. Also, I love cake.

The only way I can justify the existense of that comment is that someone was trolling you. Badly.

The fact that the term trolling even exists proves my point exactly:) xoxoxo

  2. That is so funny! Why would you even feel the need to share that? I don't like cake much but I don't go around telling everyone! Bizarre!

    1. When I read it, my first thought really was "wow. that is so profound..." as in, that really is indicative of so many other comments about more "complex subjects". Only, they are all the same... Irrelevant, destructive and absurd.

      And funny! I forgot funny:)

P.S. I'm a baker and I'm totally okay with the fact that you don't like cake. Pie FTW!

  3. Yeah, I had to google the definition of marzipan. It sounds tasty!

I hope you know that your self confidence has helped me realize that I need to kick start my self confidence (mine was fairly low my whole life)!

    You. Are. Wonderful. =D

    1. This self esteem thing is soooooooooooooooooooooooo new for me. I've put off writing solely about that because up until now I wasn't sure it was more than a phase. Now that I see that it's staying (and GROWING) I really want to talk more about it.

      We should chat some time!!!

  4. i think that this particular age of technology makes people feel like their opinions are more important than they actually are. we share our meals on instagram, quips on twitter, life events on facebook, 'unpopular opinions' on tumblr, opinions about places on yelp, and that's just a small chunk of it. there are people who truly believe it is their right as a human being, and their requirement as a person with internet, that they share every thought that comes into their heads. so here's my thought: that cake looks amazing and i want to eat the shit out of it.

  5. That comment is so horrifically bad, that it just makes me laugh. My favorite comments comes from when I wrote a blog about graduate school, as an assignment for graduate school, and the comment person WENT OFF on how self-absorbed I was for talking about grad school.

  6. I'm in love with this stunning confection. Would you mind sharing how you did it? (like the branches and such) Forgive me if it's somewhere else on this blog. I've looked but couldn't find it. Birds just make me happy. Thanks in Advance.

    1. You bet! I wanted to do a tutorial, but I didn't have time... you know, wedding cakes being stressful and all.

The outside is a buttercream fondant and marzipan mix. I rolled it out and covered the cake. The branches are grapevines from a craft store... I soaked them in hot water for a while and then curled them around the cake. I speckled it with thick brown food coloring and a brush... and dusted with powdered sugar:) The birds were also bought at a craft store. Did that answer your questions?
