BOOK ME

The Lecture:

In her brilliantly irreverent presentation  "Change the World, Love Your Body.", Baker explores the state of our current body image issues, shares 10 effective ways for participants to  individually reframe the way they perceive themselves, and clearly illustrates how implementing these 10 actions will  positively affect us all on a global level.
Baker uses personal anecdotes, empirical data, and a comedic approach while covering critical conservation topics including: the historical evolution behind our current idyllic body type, the stigma surrounding mental illness, the correlation between weight and health, the importance of“culture jamming”, why neuroplasticity and affirmations are for everyone, and how to use the way we present ourselves as an impressive form of political resistance.

In anticipation of her upcoming book, Baker has supplemented her already popular lecture with new and relevant subject matters, many of which are often untouched within the body acceptance conversation. These talking points include: the psychology behind social animosity, examples of media curation and how it affects our ability to process diversity, why we see “trolling” on the internet, and other current issues that -when included in body love dialogue- open new doors of understanding and empowerment for audience members.

Baker informs each person that they can in fact “change the world by loving your body” and shows that by learning to love yourself as you are, you can join in a revolution that directly improves our societal structure on an international level. Come ready to challenge the notion that body love is exclusive in this powerful, passionate and progressive presentation.

DID YOU KNOW that you can hire me to come speak about inspirational stuff
AND you can hug me afterwards?!?!? True. Story. It's REAL fun.

And afterwards is the EXTRA fun part where y'all get to hug me, tell me your stories, make me cry and then take selfies with me. I kinda love it.

I also present other related subjects such as: strength based mental health, peer support, fat oppression, and Body Love as a 21st century civil rights movement. All of which can be altered to fit your event... AND, I can also censor any language if you have an audience with sensitive ears. If you're into that kinda thing.

I'm booking for this Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 if you wanna bring this hot body to your town. Pitch it to your college, company, or agency. Lets have some fun.

Bio:

Jes Baker is a positive, progressive, and magnificently irreverent force to be reckoned with in the realm of self-love advocacy and mental health.

Jes is internationally recognized for her writing on her blog, The Militant Baker, the “Attractive and Fat” campaign, and her dedication to shifting social paradigms into a place where all people are offered the opportunity to love themselves just as they are. The "Attractive and Fat" campaign (a response to Abercrombie and Fitch’s controversial branding efforts) drew coverage from CNN, the Today Show, and the BBC among many others. Her extensive body advocacy work has continued to garner attention from hundreds of national and international media networks. Jes harnesses the power of vulnerability, honesty and candor through dialogue about living in a world where worth is determined by your dress size, diagnosis, and deference to authority.

Jes Baker, when not speaking, spends her time producing the renowned Body Love Conference, blogging, taking pictures in her underwear, writing for several online publications, working with clothing companies to promote more plus size fashion, and trying to convince her cats that they like to wear sweaters and bow ties.

  1. just read your article on the smh website about 'things no one will tell fat girls' - have never responded to anything like this before but could not help but track you down and send this - one of the most powerful pieces of thought expression I have ever read. My only concern was that the title was too limiting and sexist - your musings are relevant to fat blokes too. But wait, silly me, blokes are allowed to be fat, big is good in the hetro jungle, makes you 'alpha' rather than 'outcast'.keep doing what you do, the world needs more of you.

  6. I read "14 things..." two nights ago and have been mulling it over. Today, for the first time in my adult life, I wore a bikini to the beach. Yep. In front of all those people. It was terrifying and horribly liberating. Thank you :)
