BIRTHDAY MONSOONS, PUPPIES, NERD SHIRTS, AND ME

Guess who's birthday it is in 3 hours? This gal's right here.
Yessiree.

My birthday also coincides with the majestic end of the monsoon season and the week that the poodle puppies opened their eyes. Pretty great time of year, I think.

I spent yesterday celebrating with mi familia at a family dinner (all 20 of us live in town) enjoying the storm, brownies, puppies, and all of the, uhm... diversity that my family brings to the table. Just kidding. I love them all. My Him gave me a "Sheldon Shirt" early (we're both awful at waiting for suprises) and so we matched in truly the dorkiest way possible. So we've watched every episode of Big Bang ever made...twice. So what? Maybe we're just awesome that way.

My Mom's standard poodle had 8 babies two and a half weeks ago...
Are you ready for puppy pictures, or are you ready for puppy pictures?

They are squeaky, stinky, and cute as hell.

See? We're perfect for each other decked out in our nerd-dom.
Sigh. Oh and Flattering, I'm sorry I hurt your feelings last week... Will you just play nice and show up in a FEW of my pictures here and there? Please?

I bring up my birthday because I'm a Leo and we're obligated to do that kinda stuff, but also for another reason: I'm facing a different world now that I am making very conscious choices for myself. For example: I normally would expect those around me to make my birthday special. Work, family, friends, and of course my Him would dote on me hand and foot. This is what I would expect and I may be pleased if it happens as pictured or disappointed when others fail to meet my standards. Either way, I'm putting my happiness in other people's court. Totally lame. Well, this year is putting my brain to the test. I'm working, my Him is sick, my bestie is unavailable, my family already had their part, and I don't party anymore so there isn't that... This year I don't have anyone to pat me on the shoulder and tell me how awesome I am, how much they are in love with me, or that I've altered their life forever... well, except for me I guess. Smirk.

SO. do I stay home and pout? OR do I take my own advice and put a lot of thought and intention behind treatin' myself real nice and making it the best birthday ever? Only one of those sounds awesome.

Tonight, my coffee table looks like this while I edit the last o' the wedding photos and write. There is something about red wine and bitter chocolate that just turns me on in all the right ways. I might try it again tomorrow night with "Thelma and Louise". I also love movie theater dates with myself and Brave is out... aaaaaaand I just got this book in the mail today and where there is a book there is a favorite cafe with twinkle lights. I guess my birthday is TBD, but I'm sure it will be wonderful and I'll be spending it with my favorite person of all time. Me, duh.

What is your favorite birthday memory? Will you tell me who was in it?

  5. Happy birthday! Celebrate with superhero movies! It's what all the cool kids do. Or is it just me? Damn, I bet it's just me.

Regardless, have a wonderful, wonderful day, and may twenty six blow your mind with awesomeness.

  8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

I adore the matching Sheldon tops!

My best birthday was when I went to Download Festival for my 18th with my best friend. I ended up meeting a lot of amazing people including one guy who went on to become a very good friend. We lost touch eventually but he's still very special to me.

  10. oooh I loved this sweet post! My favorite birthday memory is birthday parties from when I was a kid. We would always make up "obstacle courses" and split into teams to do them. Double Dare was really big back then :) Have a lovely day!

    1. Oh man. Bday party games when I was little were catch22s. We could play them... but not win them. The guests were always to win, even when it was MY birthday. Where is the fun in that? ;)

  12. Happy birthday!! I also just turned 26. I don't really have a favourite memory, to be honest. This year I was in the middle of moving, and packing for a vacation that started a week after the move, so I didn't get to celebrate really, but my coworker brought me a single cupcake with sprinkles and a candle and it was really sweet. Definitely a happy memory, if not my favourite.

  13. Happy Birthday Jes!
I know what you mean about making your own birthday a special day. I have had so many disappointing birthdays in the past, to the extent where my brother has even suggested that perhaps I am the victim of a gypsy curse (both of my dogs have died on my birthday, four years apart. What the hell is that?!). Truly, just taking the time to reflect on the past year (fuck new years for that shit), see where you are compared to then, where you want to be when your birthday comes around next year, and how much you appreciate yourself and all that you're capable of, is the best birthday imaginable. Add a bubble bath or something in the mix, and you're off to a great start. You are special, you deserve to be celebrated, and you deserve to celebrate the way you want to, not just the way other people think you do.
Have fun, take 'er easy, and have some more wine and dark chocolate for me :)

  16. Happy Birthday! Oh, to be 26 again....sigh....you and Your Him are freakin' adorable. My favorite birthday memory would have to be the time I walked into work one morning to find a bouquet of 30 red roses on my desk. My boyfriend (now husband) had sneaked in to surprise me with that, and I think he pretty much sealed the deal with that one! Have a wonderful birthday!

  17. HAPPY MOTHAFUCKING BIRTHDAY!

My 27th birthday was kinda awesome; I was a newlywed and my hubby and I threw a huge Halloween birthday party. He surprised me with a big hunk o'cash that he'd gathered from all my friends and family for me to buy myself a fancy new digital SLR. Also, I got to wear a beard (I was Baberaham Lincoln) and there was a fog machine and some dude dressed as Darth Vader pissed in our bathroom sink.

May your birthday be just as awesome, but less urine-y.

  18. Happy happy happy birthday! I hope you have a great 26, YOU ARE AWESOME! Ta Da! You got it after all ;)

My favorite birthday memory was getting my NES system, I think I was 8 years old or something. I got to wear the prettiest, frilliest pink dress and play duck hunt and eat cake. It was awesome.

  21. I'm new 'round these parts. I've been enjoying catching up your blog posts you smart, articulate lady. Happy 26th to you, I'll be celebrating my 26th this year as well :)

Since you asked, my favorite birthday memory was one I can barely remember from my childhood in Italy. I believe I was turning 6 or 7? We celebrated in our immense basement, which our artist neighbor turned into an extremely realistic graveyard! He rented coffins and everything. Man, I need to find photos of that masterpiece he created. I was already a horror junkie by that young age and it's a memory I'll never forget :)

And I love the puppy porn, cutest photos ever!
